Langham Dome

Built in 1942/43 on the edge of RAF Langham, Langham Dome utilised innovative technology to train anti-aircraft gunners.

Long before digital virtual reality was invented, moving images projected onto the inside of the Dome taught trainees how to shoot down enemy aircraft successfully. Seventy years after the end of World War II, a visit to the Dome offers a unique opportunity to journey back in time and experience what life was like for those who served at RAF Langham. Today visitors can watch films, narrated by Stephen Fry, which reveal the fascinating history of the Dome – a building which is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument. There are lively displays and hands-on activities, including the opportunity for visitors to test their aim with an interactive dummy training gun and one of the Dome’s original target films.
